Spring Series Race 1
12 riders braved wet conditions to
ride Race 1, with several new faces amongst them. The race was
relocated to Joyce Rd due to road works on the Armstrong Rd circuit, we
will return to Te Puna when the road works permit.
The lead bunch of 5 riders completed
the first lap together, but this was whittled down to two by the last
lap, with Steve Came applying the pressure to take out the win. The
rest of the field basically time trialled the race, other than Niklas
and Rainer Ansorge, who stuck together until the final climb at the top
of Joyce Rd, when Niklas sprinted for the line, bouncing 6 seconds
clear of his Dad.

Paengaroa Circuit 9 May 2009
A sunny, but cold and windy day at
Paengaroa. Strong side winds on the highway, with a head wind on the
finish straight making it tough going. However, a good tail wind on
Maniatutu Road saw speeds hitting the high 40’s. Despite being on
restricted gearing, Ari Fincucane managed to stick closely with the
senior riders.
Sprint of the day was between Ian
Leslie and Paul Gurran in the B Grade, with Ian taking the win by a
tyre width.

Club Time Trial
Championships 21 March 2009 - Te Tumu Road
Fine weather for the clubs Individual
Time Trial Champs at Te Tumu, with light winds increasing on the final
lap for the A Grade riders. This event clashed with the Northland tour,
taking out several major players, while huge delays due to road
works at Te Maunga caused a number of riders to miss the race
altogether. The same delay even affected our trusty
timekeepers, the two Brians, who arrived several minutes after the
first riders had started.
A worthy win by Paul Rogers, in his
first race for 18 months, reclaiming the title he last won in 2007.
Just for comparison, Steve Cames winning time in 2008 was 57:21, while
Pauls time in 2007 was 55:39.
For those keen to try and better
their times, there is another time trial on the same circuit on 25th
April.
