Tauranga Road Cycling Club Inc. Information

Cycling is the recreational activity of choice for over 736,000 New Zealanders – more than almost any other activity - and one of the fastest growing.

Cycling is controlled by BikeNZ, with Cycling New Zealand Federation (CNZ) looking after Road and Track Cycling – and the Tauranga Road Cycling Club Inc. is proud to represent CNZ/BikeNZ in the Western Bay of Plenty region.

The Tauranga Club organises many events every year, catering for all ages and abilities. Whether you ride just for fun and to keep fit or whether you enjoy the more competitive challenges of racing, the Club has something to offer you.

The Club also works closely with the local Masters Cycling Association, the Triathlon Club and Cycle Action Tauranga.

We are recognised by Transit and Council as one of the Official Cycling Bodies that they consult with when designing new roads, so we can be your voice on Cycling Advocacy Matters.

The Club’s main season is during the summer – the daylight saving period. However, during winter the club also holds regular races, training rides and the very popular indoor training sessions.

Joining the Tauranga Road Cycling Club means you become a member of Cycling New Zealand, with the many benefits that brings. Joining us allows you to enter the many CNZ “Open” races (held from August through to April) around the country (many in the Waikato and BOP areas). CNZ races are run under the control of referees, so they are much safer than “Fun Rides”, and contrary to popular myth, you don’t have to be a Sarah Ulmer or Greg Henderson to take part – riders of all abilities compete. Events are generally graded start or handicap start, so you ride with riders of similar ability. And there’s always the free afternoon tea as well!! Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Back on the local scene, all Tauranga Club events are also handicapped or graded, ensuring you ride with riders of similar ability. Even the popular summer Tuesday Night Training Rides are split into grades to let you determine what type of ride you want to do.

Membership also provides you with the regular newsletters and up to date information on coming events (CNZ, Fun Rides and Masters events), and also enjoy discounts at some of the local bike shops.

The club also has social events on an occasional basis throughout the year.

Coaching is also available for those members who wish to follow a more competitive cycling career.

So become part of the Cycling success story – join the Tauranga Road Cycling Club Inc. TODAY!!
