
Fine weather brought out a record
number of competitors and spectators for the 2007 Club Champs. Over 50
people
were present, with 36 competitors starting the time trial down
As expected, Steve Came set a
blistering pace, covering the course in 7 min 50 sec, narrowly beating
current
Waikato/BOP Under 19 road race champion, Philip Hudson. Quite a few
riders
ended up with identical times – 3 riders on 9 min 31 secs.
The road race was then seeded from
times set in the time trial, with some adjustment based on known
ability over
the longer distances.
The B Grade quickly split into two
divisions and in hindsight, we could have done with a fifth grade to
better
match up riders of the same ability. If we get similar numbers in 2008,
we will
consider doing this. Visitor Sally Fraser rode with the B Grade, but
was not
included in calculations of placings for the Time Trial or Road Race.
The A grade were given the bell a
lap early, so only rode 54km instead the adverstised 60km
In the D Grade, a rider was
relegated for taking pace from the B Grade race.
After a short break, riders tackled
the
We will run a separate hill climb
event shortly and award the medals then.
For the overall results, the riders
with the least number of points were the winners. Where riders
were
equal on points, the finish position in the road race was used as a tie
breaker.
