Tauranga Success at Waikato/BOP Centre Time Trial Champs

Report by Mark Ireland

Tauranga cyclists had to haul a pile of medals back over the Kaimais after Saturdays Waikato/BOP Time Trial Championships, held at Gordonton.  It was rather cold over there, with intermittent rain, but all our riders performed with distinction and it was great to see so many of our distinctive stripey blue & white club jerseys out on the Waikato roads.  For the first time, this event was opened to riders from outside the Waikato/BOP region, but they were ineligible to win any titles. In all, there were some 120 riders competing.

Ash Hough at MTB Worldsworlds

ashOur 2006 club champion Ash Hough recently competed at the MTB World championships at Fort William in Scotland.  Riding in the Junior Men's Cross Country event, Ash finished in 46th place at 9.41, and was the highest placed New Zealander, with one Australian rider a few seconds ahead of him.  The 34.2km  race was held over 4 laps of a circuit described as a "climber's special" and was won by Thomas Litscher of Switzerland.   Congratulations Ash.
